Baston in the Blitz draws in the crowds.

Great fun was had by all at the recent 'Baston in the Blitz' event.

We were in attendance with our own Larkfleet Homes battle bus and we were delighted to be involved in this very popular event again. The stunning weather helped draw in record crowds with everyone being keen to view the two Battle of Britain fighter planes - the Hawker Hurricane and the Messerschmitt Bf109.

The event had a truly authentic feel with the US, German, Russian and British armies being represented and music being played throughout the weekend by a number of 40's bands and singers.
Over 6,000 visitors joined in the celebrations this year.  This was a huge increase on the 3,000 that attended last year and just shows how popular this annual event is becoming.

Just down the road from the venue is The Croft, Larkfleet's age-exclusive development which is aimed at new home buyers looking to downsize and enjoy a new stage in their lives in low maintenance, eco-friendly housing. Situated in Mayfield Gardens, close to the centre of the village, homes at The Croft can be viewed by calling Mike on 07917 761020.

Residents at The Croft celebrate the Queen's birthday

Residents at Larkfleet's age exclusive development, The Croft at Baston, celebrated the Queen's Birthday this weekend with an afternoon tea party.

Organised by resident Margaret Wilson, this was the first event to be held in the development's community hub building.  With nearly every resident attending, the group got together and enjoyed tea and cakes throughout the afternoon.

Everyone was encouraged to wear red, white and blue and many took up Margaret's challenge!  The ladies in particular put in a huge effort.

The Croft is a residential development for those aged 55 years and over.  Perfect for new home buyers looking to downsize, it is not just a place to live but a community of like-minded neighbours who enjoy a lifestyle of possibilities.  The community hub is integral in this development and offers residents a place to entertain visitors, meet other residents and start new hobbies.  For the green fingered, allotments are on offer.

The beginning of summer means the start of local fetes and events.  We are always keen to offer support to local events and this summer is no different.

 approx 12 gardens open
Last weekend Larkfleet Homes supported the very successful Rutland Show and this coming weekend, 11 and 12 June, we will be supporting the Thurlby Open Gardens, near to Bourne, and sponsoring the cake stall.

'Meet the neighbours' Monday

'Meet the neighbours' Monday is our first theme for this week's 'New Homes Week' and is all about showing the benefits of creating communities when building new homes.

We are passionate about this and proactively create developments with communal spaces such as play parks, running tracks, allotments and communal areas where communities can form as people relax and chat with their new neighbours.

Our Croft development in Baston is a perfect example of how a new community is meeting, developing friendships and forming strong bonds, all through their new Larkfleet home.  The Croft is an age exclusive development, aimed at new home owners aged 55 years and over.  Resident Mr Cooper explains more:

"I am retired and live alone so was looking for an easy-to-maintain and economical property for my new lifestyle.  My search for a new home brought me to the Croft and I liked the development for its locality, layout and quality of finish.  However, I was also impressed by the community hub which is open to all residents.  Having the hub on site not only means I have somewhere to meet family and friends but also means I can take part in any of the events or classes which take my fancy."

He added: "As I live alone, it is great to have somewhere to meet new people but also to maintain my privacy which is important to me.  The Croft also appealed to me as it has allotments on the site which are available to all new residents.  I will be putting my name down for one and as someone with a past farming background, I am keen to get back on the land and start work on it!"

The allure of a train in your garden!

Graham and Sue Diver moved into their new Larkfleet home at The Croft in Baston last year.  The Croft is an age exclusive development offered by Larkfleet Homes.  With varied house styles and private gardens on offer, The Croft appealed to Graham and Sue immediately.

Graham is a keen railway enthusiast and has built model railways as a pastime for many
years.  Having a brand new garden at his disposal proved to be just too much of a temptation and Graham has built a brand new track model railway!

The initial work was started last year and the project was recently finished as the last of the landscaping and planting was completed.

The initial work included marking out the track route and layout, building the foundations and walls.  Laying the track circuits came next with inner and outer circuits, a passing loop and sidings.  Following a brief pause for a holiday, the engine sheds were added to the sidings and a couple of stations and buffer stops completed the scene.

The final landscaping and planting was completed very recently and the trains are now ready to start rolling.

Graham says: “We were very happy with the choice of houses at The Croft.  Obviously, what really swung it for me was having a garden large enough to house a new railway layout.”

What's on in Stamford this Easter?

Traditionally the time for Easter Egg hunts and visits to the garden centre, this year there is much more on offer in and around the Lincolnshire town of Stamford.

Stamford is home to our Anvil Mews development and we are offering substantially reduced prices on our few remaining plots. If you are visiting Stamford this Easter weekend, our show home and sales office is open from 10 am - 5 pm daily.  In fact, all of our sales offices at our developments in Baston, Peterborough, Eye and Whittlesey are open as normal.

You can combine your trip to Anvil Mews with one of the Easter activities on offer locally, starting with the Big Bunny Hunt at Sacrewell or the Pop up Easter crafts event at Stamford Arts Centre.  Alternatively go a little further afield to Barnsdale Gardens and take part in its Easter Egg hunt and paint some eggs for its special Easter tree.

Maintenance and weed free gardening appeals at The Croft in Baston

Mr and Mrs Austin moved into their new Larkfleet house at The Croft in Baston last year.

Mr Austin said: “We are enjoying our new home very much.  We are relatively local, having lived in Folkingham previously, but we have found a like-minded and friendly community at The Croft.  Our bungalow completely lives up to our expectations and we are loving living here.”

His inspiration to move to a home which would provide a new lifestyle came after visiting his brother who lives in a retirement village in Cape Town, South Africa.  On returning home, Mr Austin and his wife looked at a number of similar options and found The Croft at Baston fitted the bill best.  They enjoy the spacious layout and wide walkways at the development which they feel give a feeling of space and openness.

Both look forward to enjoying the facilities at the Club House which will open shortly for  residents to use as a social centre. The Club House will provide a space for residents to keep up their hobbies, take up new ones or just meet with friends or family for a coffee and relax.

One of the additions the couple made to their home is to install Citygrass, a type of artificial lawn covering, to their garden.  As Mr Austin points out, it offers a maintenance and weed-free surface which looks great throughout the year.

He added: “A local firm, Cherry Holt Garden Centre from Bourne, extended our patio and installed the Citigrass  – and we are delighted with it.  It means we can just pull out our chairs and enjoy the sun in the summer with our new friends and neighbours and ignore it in the winter!”
