Top Tips Tuesday - Clever toy storage ideas

Kids clutter - whether it is numerous toys, never to be thrown arts and craft materials or bits and bobs associated with their favourite hobby - are one of the banes of family life.  Who hasn't stood on a Lego block or suffered near major injuries after standing on a toy car and whizzed across the room!

There are solutions to be found!  Here are some our favourite storage ideas for kids rooms.

This clever all-in one bed and storage solution looks great fun as well as practical and offers a great alternative to bunk-beds.  We love the roll-down curtains!

If you need to make the best use of every centimeter of space, then start with the essentials.  You will need a bed and some storage at the very least!  The slightly smaller toddler bed can free up some space for storage, or if your child is older, a single bed will be fine.  Look for beds with built in storage which can be accessed without having to man-handle the bed to get at things.  Sliding drawers in a divan are fine or a higher bedstead which allows under-bed storage may work.  The mid or high-sleeper systems such as the one above do make maximum use of your floorspace and can be used to incorporate a play area, desk or storage units.

If you need to put in furniture, look for freestanding furniture which is dual-purpose, such as a wardrobe which also features drawers.  Children's clothes do not need a full-length hanging space so a half-wardrobe and half drawer option can be a real bonus.  Make sure you measure the spaces you have available before you buy!

Wall-hung shelves and units are great too for a streamlined look and make tidying up a quick and easy task.  Some have hooks and rails to make things even more flexible.

If space is compact, it oftens pays to keep your colour scheme simple.  White works brilliantly and colour can be added by using colourful scatter cushions, rugs, blinds or curtains, or just look at a few key accessories such as the table lamps or wall art that you use.
