Downsizing is becoming more and more popular with those approaching retirement. Last year, it was believed that around a fifth of soon-to-be retirees were considering moving to a smaller property. These 50 to 59 year olds joined the thousands of pensioners who have sold their family homes and downsized to fund an exciting new life in their retirement.
The Croft offers downsizers a perfect solution. The Croft is a new development, built by Larkfleet Homes, which offers 49 new homes built
exclusively for the over 55's in the tranquil village of Baston in south
Lincolnshire.
This month, there is a fantastic discount on offer of £10,000 on Plot 26.
Some of the practicalities can be daunting, so here are our five top tips for making downsizing work for you.
Write down a list of all the things you cannot live without!
Be tough and practical!
Start to thin out your belongings at least three months before you move.
Take your time and do one thing a day, whether that is a whole room or a filing cabinet!
Get the measurements of your new rooms so you can measure your furniture and see what will fit where.
This also gives you time to change your furniture if you need to.
Sort out your garage and shed!
If you are moving to somewhere with a smaller garden, you probably won't need quite as many implements and tools, or such a large mower.
Recyle, reuse, sell or donate what you do not need!
It may add to your coffers for things for your new home.
